University of Wyoming mascot Pistol Pete, celebrating a Wyoming point at a Wyoming volleyball game at the UniWyo Sports Complex on September 16, 2023. Fans take great pride into their sports at the University of Wyoming. This is a great time for people to get together with old friends and getting to know new ones and Laramie has one of the few spots in the state of Wyoming where people can support athletics in a unique way.
This photo was taken at a University of Wyoming volleyball game against Idaho State University on September 16, 2023. I decided to take this specific photo because this captures the fan pageantry in a way that everybody can recognize that it’s a gameday atmosphere. Pistol Pete is being passionate about the fanbase that the University of Wyoming has to offer. Pistol Pete and Cowboy Joe are the two mascots that represent the University.
I wanted to have emotion, interaction, as well as action in my photos. As a sports photographer, I believe that it is important to incorporate each of these because this would be a make a difference in how people react to the gameday experience. The composition techniques that I used for this project were centered composition, foreground interest and depth. For my football photos, frame within a frame was big, and diagonals and triangles were big as well for my sports photography. I also used negative space but wanted to take up as much of the frame as possible for my action.
I notice that the color and lighting is way different for my outdoor photos than they were for my indoor sports photos. I think the different ISOs that I used played a huge role in how I take photos. I would try getting the right ISO for my photos for my next assignment because I believe that’s what is playing a huge role in how I take photos differently indoors as well as outdoors. I still need work on sports photography, but progressively I am getting better at taking action photos. Can’t wait to see where this project goes.
